A False Dawn by Ursula Burke : A Review

“The sound as an augury of death”

This title is a starting point. I’ve chosen it as it speaks of the anticipation of looking at the new exhibition by Ursula Burke, ‘A False Dawn’. The word anticipation is our expectation ahead of time.
On 31 May 2020 plans were to close the exhibition here in limbo. While we consider time and second waves there is alteration in our vision and it is not only the wounded concerning us but those who have tragically lost their lives in the outbreak of Covid 19. Despite our experiences in the face of a plague it is human nature to consider the methods we employ to understand it and the wider dangers everyday life has in store. By no means a reflection but a catalyst for thought this exhibition currently hidden away from us speaks of many things.

The introductory title photograph I took and titled to head this essay is obviously showing the Lockdown confinement of the exterior that hides (in March/April/May 2020) the exhibition lying behind the 5th floor Upper Gallery wall.

Inside, on the other side, the drip painting lies behind. The wall suddenly becomes a current edition of the angry it leaps from. This present protection the enclosure provides, shields the new work, creating an extraordinary sense of the present as its original conceptual form centuries ago is reinterpreted somewhere we cannot experience in the intended installation. The prescience is un-calculated but if anything, maybe in the mould of prophethising is shockingly realised and the prophet being here, Ursula Burke.

On the 5th level of the Ulster Museum, traditionally the Art being the highest entry to the confines of ours and the museums strata of telling discovery. Augury is a word Ursula Burke fastens onto and it’s emblematic place in the sculpture sends us in several directions. The repurposed fresco with birds is resonant of several contexts across a longer period of time.

In the Artist statement this is said – “Often, I take a Northern Irish context as a critical point of departure from which to generalise my approach outwards to international concerns.”

This work takes in some pieces from previous exhibitions that lend their heft to this particular ascribed process. The following text from those earlier exhibitions, in part description, shows the process of thought employed by Ursula Burke.

“A large proportion of my work at present is made using Parian porcelain, a hard paste porcelain that is famed for emulating Parian marble, the substance used for carving many of the Greek and Roman sculptures from antiquity. Even though Parian is extremely hard after firing, the nature of the material exudes a kind of softness and elasticity, (almost fleshy) which at the same time formally emulates the characteristics of marble. In content, the reference to the classical period that the work allows enables me to make a conceptual bridge between idealised versions of society much in debate during the classical period and the necessity for continually suspended versions of the ideal within a post-conflict society. Northern Ireland as a region is consistently working towards peace; persistently speaking and striving to move towards an indeterminate point in the future where real, meaningful and lasting peace between tribal communities has been realized. The schism between idealized forms of civil society and consistently suspended versions of the ideal in post conflict society is at the heart of this work.” From the troublesarchive.com Art of the Troubles, The Ulster Museum Belfast, 2014; Arafudo Art Annual, Fukushima, Japan 2014; March & June Mostra, British School at Rome, 2014; Spazi Aperti, Romanian Academy, Rome, 2014; Hope for a Better Past, The MAC, Belfast, 2013 & Instances of Agreement, Kao Yuan Art Centre, Taiwan, 2011. They resonate again here.

The vision here
It summons up a thought process on life as seen though the past as a vision of the future. Called ‘A False Dawn’ it supposes also a negative position maybe where we are at, but it covers a lot of ground. The past is seen in the referencing spatial sense of the original fresco and it in part a reconstruction of. It also is a gathering of violence against the person, posing in an array of mediums the entry to the debating chamber, meeting places to discuss differences and forge policies of unity an opposite prevails into the present day and beyond.

The work seems to presuppose the history of humans default to former patterns that negatives will ensue. Far from obvious are the immemorial themes point to the wasteful oblique way we see the environs and world we live in and all its inhabitants. These only appear with scrutiny of the ‘fresco’ with images contained within it. Some local and as I alluded to the wall takes on more genus loci with the wall having in the view hidden our ‘Parliment’ a few miles out the other side having, and it’s very probable Ursula Burke had that symbolic an immovable part of our reckoning or at least a fixture of it.

Further on here I will refer to other works that seek to use art as the countenance for or own debates.

There is a reaction to repression of every kind here in the work and at its core is the politically ardent will that caught out post war worlds. Reconciliation is never over. After these ancient inherent human abstract relations pattern in nature survives beyond us. Made as each are in that miracle of combinations that under the microscope only retain pattern and forms of symmetry our abstract world is incurable evident.

The Italian fresco is a beginning but the core is the restlessness borne of dreadful pain mirrored in the apathy with which fine art beguilingly transports us towards as some judgement or acceptance of the absurd.

Fight with flight
The birds are the only animals seen in the exhibition and they figure in the settled full wall perch of the blue diagraphic take on enterprise. The glory of a fresco is simulated in the form of a testing pseudo deterioration by strands of dripped bud paint, speckled distempered plaster. The appearance is less fecund than any original fresco but holds an arresting scale in the soft light of the Gallery. It is based on the Villa of Livia which has been restored at the Palazzo Massimo in Rome which is, in this iteration, a bit like the https://www.atelier-lumieres.com/en/home Van Gogh simulator without the colour intensity.

The villa was abandoned in the 5th century AD, and subsequently pillaged and looted for antiquities. In 1863, the famous statue of Augustus of Prima Porta was discovered on the site, as well as the birds and trees frescoes in an underground dining area. These were moved to museums in the city to conserve them.

The deterioration as depicted here is arrested and an arresting state of compromise for our satiated souls. Reclaiming it with this mural effect is taking the visitor into a world that is outside the former and is evoking through the use of the flightless birds sorrowful dripping tears of paint and the abundance of natural things an anotherness we cannot see. It goes beyond us. To this Ursula Burke brings a presence of mankind’s intervention and confinement. In today’s compromised world it has wild connections. Nowhere will there be a more relevant juxtaposition in Art installation. The terracotta wilderness is the only comparable example of these themes as this has advanced new infinite interpretations.

The terracotta wilderness of the former is obliterated by the intensity of a blue landscape with grid mesh patterns and inserts of hand held lenses capturing a circle of place, Carson’s Statue or The Stormont Mile.
We are pulled into the wilderness of our transmuted political lives.

The allegories may be there but the tonal qualities of the former fresco as a vehicle are explored as an effect less intensely or otherworldly here as Ursula Burke realises her ‘Augury of the Birds.’ The Villa of Livia is the original title and this alternative is extending the reach of the original due to its pastiche allegory of a beautiful location, even garden of Eden. … “La Villa di Livia a Prima Porta da praedium suburbanum a villa Caesarum”.

The place here, it’s genus loci, is compared to this former mythical imagining which itself is captured in its frozen fall from perpetuity and is a relic of another view of the world. The meaning is placed in either location to be one where we aspire to flourish beyond expectations held across the fence in the fresco. “Livia had a fresco painted on the walls which reproduced the nature outside. In fact there are several types of trees, and there are also 69 different types of birds, like those found in the woods around the villa,” said Biondi.

Other Portraits
That illusion is not far from in both the former and Ursula Burke’s own latest interpretation here, one perceived by the Artist know as the old man of Modern Literature, one James Joyce, whose eyesight, with another ironic twist of fate in this context, was about a tenth of normal sight and therefore he was unable to invest in the visual much other than an observant contempt-or, while being in the opposite a master of the language lingual he contritely put a verse to this connection –

Buy a book in brown paper
From Faber and Faber
To see Annie Liffey trip, tumble and caper.
Sevensinns in her singthings,
Plurabelle on her prose
Seashell ebb music wayriver she flows.

His book was of the two shores of the Liffey, on the harbour of people, the brown paper bag the admission it was censored and contained connections with Finnegans Wake..

Not the enigma poetry expected but a blunt instrument of a sales pitch. This is itself a play with words as you are invited to enter a tributary of life where the rawness and morality is cast in metaphors of the rivers proximity to us. The river is carrying away our thoughts. The changes in the tidal flow are stilled only by the momentary galina.

What he was doing was leaving a literary ghost mark for a world that was unprepared for it. Anna is both woman and river and “her fluvial maids of honour”, from all corners of the world, constitute 350 river names.’ Edna O’Brien.

This is the same wilderness an author felt able to enter and express while H.G.Wells, Nabokov, DH Lawrence, thought the less of it, TS Eliot was along with Samuel Beckett no stranger to its strangeness as ‘Anna Livia Plurabelle’ became a morality tale of the river as the conscious being, once entered you cannot return to join in the same place again. The essay by Edna O’Brien is simply a testament to that works genius.

Bleakness lies before the precious and it is not recreational, recreation is a simile after all and it is an escape while being present. What appears is the thought Ursula Burke is in contest with the world as seen. That she attests to other consciousnesses and parts and gives here a very formative tale to investigate. Along with Joyce she is a companion to the diversity and is gathering in throwing porcelain of her own concepts in bruised and battered allegories which for a long time have proven solid and robust conquests of authorative voice.

The wonderful new book by Colm McCann ‘Apeirogon’ which he snatches a story of combatants he met as lives witnessed in the Middle East to convey the union of ordinary people through the common loss of a child, is illustrated in physical existing metaphors wherein the entry points A,B,C, in the occupied areas are under surveillance of drones cameras and watchtowers the lines of movement that must be adhered to. Gate A is to a Palestinian area, it is illegal for Israelis to enter it. There reasons might be collaboration and assistance? Gate B is to an Israeli held area which Palestinians can enter with adherence to the areas rules as they provide services to the area. Gate C is a settlement occupied only by Israelis. Only Israelis are allowed in. This is the real manifestation of a global human malaise. To take it to another level is the containment of the rooms, a truth, an encounter then a reflection. The broad scope is a problematic one in this confined space. Later I suggest reasons for this opinion.

Just as another fine line of connection there is a review in Los Angeles of the novel being also about birds. ‘Also About Birds: The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict’ in Colum McCann’s “Apeirogon” by Ben Libman

Beyond malaise is the witnessing of such division and conflict and Ursula Burke has produced in the area of the 5th floor something akin to the separate rooms, at least for my purposes of analysing what I’d seen within its pictorial walls that similar guise. Akin is the name VSO call their volunteer magazine which centres on the junctions of family and repair. This is also a part within the scope of Ursula Burke’s vision here. The many pieces of sculptured heads themselves are displayed on trestles and Dias as types of singular grief and fortitude.

The typed imprint sometimes seen in Ursulas work, of tattoos and messages is again used but less dominantly. The tattoos are in fact the bruises and broken defaced, literally heads full of self image and identity harmed but unbowed. Each forms a art of the same collective. The ‘rooms’ – Gates I eluded to – are usefully given mapping in the accompanying exhibition booklet.

The collective is known as ‘The Wounding’. In the same room, the point of entry are two smaller pieces, Blue – The Sphinx greeting you as you enter and the foremost image identifying what the exhibition is taking you toward. Due to the limitations of space there is only a small explation of the aims and it is immeasurable how much can be taken away or witnessed in calculations of meaning and the exploration of the work.

piece

It is brutally beautiful from the onset. Delivering a coruscating abundance of tales in principle using humans at its core. Natures supremacy is also our configuration. The birds are in an evolutionary state, as we happen to have common migratory processes instilled within us. The flight as opposed to flightlessness is adjudicated in poetry, Seamus Heaney’s works are peppered with birds. As local artist Jefferey Morgan has often in his paintings, his fellow Artist in words, Michael Longley has himself a fascination with birds and their flight. Even in this same space (RUA 2019) birds were appropriated in Jeremy Morgan’s painting of Wiggenstien, as a perch for birds, his trusted companions placing context to philosophy in the edges of Connemara.

Jeffrey Morgan’s Wiggenstien

The Sphinx is an art subject since it’s earliest embrace. In essence power is anthropomorphic with this creature a heraldic peaceful force showing control, the complete opposite of ourselves of its innate image of pure evolution. This is no Tutankhamen (another tomb is believed to exist beyond the famous Egyptian find) but it is emblematic of faith, virtue, spirit and soul all equated with blue and light blue is associated with the Throat Chakra in eastern mysticism. The element of ether belongs with this and the bruise signals I am here, a human, both the yellow and red absent from blue transition to the physical take it to a stage statues do not have.

It is hard to speak of the delicate forms the world takes without seeing the contrasts presented. They are a dialogue of themselves. The hanging head ‘Augury’ in the third room is a synthesis of a beam, a pressure treated, well selected, worn railway sleeper of a crossbeam, a bodyof woolen torso. Who am I? – it seeks an answer to. Both of itself and the visitor under its presence. The stainless steel grille of the sixties ventilation above and behind it is brought into it in my view, with its rational place occupying the space also and filtering away the august air of the solemn interior in which we invent time and thought.

solitary insular war

Inherited. A congress of anger.
In ‘Augury of the Birds’ is a context which is as I recently reminded a commentator having a pop at a geographer in a political context, of the animal having a locale and no borders – pinemartins. One of the Irish animals that possess enough guile as to be from even further away. These common carnivores are found in Scotland and the species mustelid have been around a long time. They are not confined by fences while birds are even less confined. They find a way to cross boundaries.

Here there is a joy alongside a trying contest with hope in this display and conceptual world. By creating, and arches sanctity of place, light and stillness take the visitor to a similar room or series of spaces as the La Villa di Livia a Prima Porta. No longer a place of restful pastoral solitude here there are cast relics or people. The heads and bruised elegance given to the new born is cast with its brethren’s burden. The baby is a clear embodiment of this veil of sorrows already inhabited by the person. James Joyce spent years developing a new dialogue and who is Finnegan? Who is the wanderer? The point from one place to another is taken by allowing seeing places symbolising your existence. A habitat or vantage point like the Martello Tower.

space

The man-made is like a Seán Hillen postcard montage/collage sustained with images taken in combinations and gathered. Like a rickshaw on the canal towpath incongruous and accepted. The allegory of Birds is one which goes beyond our eight mile, for most experiences of that scale, vision unlike the birds whose flight allows them elevation and survey. Often looking at horizons it is observed or intuition tells us, why would you look for meaning in it, what is meaning and why would it have to have meaning.

Library of Congress
Like Joyces work this Gallery is a ‘book’ of ideas subverting the ordinary scroll of everyday blindness. Joyce’s tenth of normal eyesight comes with the baggage of having to find other ways to create. Recently I have been discovering how common the impairment in sight is found in art. Locally the colour blindness encroaching in degrees and in severity was occurring with Paul Henry and Basil Blackshaw. Ursula Burke is using the head as the all seeing self and its variances are dispersed with degrees of damage and all physical with the awareness there is damage within always.

A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.’ Kafka. In the current ‘Democrat’ debate a commentator pointed out – literally – if Elizabeth Warren had an axe/sword at the discussion Bloomberg was all over the place, he would be ‘shish kebab’. Perhaps those words should be removed from any political context. There is a plethora of subjects in political debate for violence which Ursula Burke has brought to this and it is a wild card I throw into the cannibalism of political discourse. Discursive not constructive. The view being, it is present in chambers of supposed governance.

There is another oblique observation which I throw in as it comes from the family of ‘The Origin of the Species.’ Gwen Raveret, a very quick mind and Artist when a boarder at school in France wrote when returning to the comfort of the Darwin household this.

In all that time there is only one vision that I keep: a flash, seen through the garden hedge, of some sheep in the next field, with the frosty, winter light running along their backs. It seemed like something from another world: the real world, to which I should escape again some day. It kept me alive.’ Gwen Raveret. (A Cambridge Childhood)

In that clear mind the outside vision is seen through nature. People happen to inhabit that world along with the animals she recalls. The words are extraordinary well in keeping with the Darwin insights.

The Wounded
With the tenderness of porcelain Ursula Burke is calling out “the company of self-obsessed fuck-offs who squandered and destroyed the world …..” Gabriel Tallent. Except they continue to preside over the collapse. As in Dresden the mercurial pliability of the material as manipulated in the Dachau Concentration camps is once again primordial in its fragile solidity. These works are combined and brought from each singularity of a human entity, to become the assembly of The Wounded. The scene graceful and stark. Each head has a four cornered timber dias and they rest on the flat top at eye level. The combined display’s each suppose a human scale though they are at times not at the human scale but either or above or below. The child’s head for instance is larger than its normal size as is The Sphinx – Blue. As Colin Davison has in his Lives series and as is his practice the energy of a person is advanced beyond the know parameters thus confronting another aspect, that of an outside deliberate context. Apathy, hurt, fortune, fortitude, resilience, absence, they are all there and more besides. That is the gift art brings, as the lie Picasso referred to. The False Dawn maybe is presaged in the baby at the beginning of life consumed by applied identity.

There is an ever more disturbing connection to be made and it is with regard to that pliability of the Parian Porcelain. In a tragic irony it became a fixation of Himmler as in the Edward de Waal book ‘Figurines in Dachau’, of The extraordinary story of Porzellan Manufaktur Allac as it is further testified, the delicacy was a fine art beloved by Himmler and Hitler. Himmler called porcelain ‘one of the few things that give me pleasure’ and Hitler gave it as gifts. That skill advanced in Dachau a violation of human life.

The Concentration Camps became a crucible, some surviving it is presumed due to their skills and competency with the material, within Dachau. The factory in Allach became too small, and at the end of 1940 it moved to Dachau concentration camp. There were many advantages of having the factory here. There was the immediate gain of using the prisoners. The Allach porcelain company – as with the porcelain manufactory in Meissen – was losing skilled workers to the eastern front, and here they could draw on the talents of inmates. The few prisoners brought in from the camp in 1941 grew to over a hundred by 1943.

Geography and Boundaries
While a heaviness of subject is somewhat eased by the actual area of the exhibition in what is a very large space within the Museum in the three parts of the 5th floor it has a difficulty. This is so large a subject the confinement of it is problematic. The particular and evident use as much is possible of minimal presentation by exhibiting one piece on one wall emerges as a tentative approach. There is little room for reflection.

Embroidery is a dominant presence which it is possible to approach as well as view from afar. This is seen as a hanging of an image created with the softness of thread while being the concord of hate in the image as people assailants each other or defend themselves. Blood is threads dripping in tapestry. The Politicians piece is given largesse and prominence and the wooden star frame is accentuating the methodology. The piece is however crowded in the sense it has companions in the room and they are not linear. If only the pace was larger and it were possible as would happen in a linear Gallery or Circular, Getty type space, lead you through from a piece to another piece. Instead it is a conflict of images and though the earnest use of light and separations is used effectively as much as is possible it seems a narrative is lost.

Despite my ‘eulogy’ on certain aspects and being able to draw interpretations from it on a vast scale at times, it torments by not being a story developing as it could. This is evident in seeing it with others and hearing responses and the quickness of a journey does not help. Would it be better were The Wounded be confined to their own room and reflection be removed from the other works? It is difficult to imagine. Another thing I found was not being able to describe its arc to an artist before they visited and it is not entirely obvious where the story begins and what the nature of the fresco analogy is. Is it important to read the ‘fence/bird’ metaphor as the original had foreseen? Is it suffice to take the fresco for what it is by long objective observation? It was long silent before being revealed.

This is a unique reconstruction and was delivered by work on many levels by a number of people under the artists instruction. It is formed with architectural references also in the entry point and the articulation the Gallery, a modern sixties space with delights of formation and detail familiar and a shift in art presentation in itself. Now sans Pirelli Black Rubber Floor unfortunately.

Embroidery is a method deployed as an invocation of political abuse. Comparisons for me are to be made with the work often carried out by local artist Brendan Jameson. It was not long ago he replicated a war picture with plastic bricks and fired pellets at the pixelated plastic image and it showed the connection of a bombing and burnt presentation in a soft caricature the hardness of violence. Often Brendan Jameson produces work similarly contextualised of hard subjects developed with soft materials, sugar cubes towers, cranes and wool is often employed. It is a demographic pluralised by many in art.
Often troubling images are significantly made impactive by use of colour and texture. All art is a combination of the signatures, symbolic, icon, index. The hardness softness is a vocabulary which will last long and be emotive.

The use of tapestry is often seen as belonging to Power bases but that is long gone as a means of expression except the clothes and dress attire is often still predicated on status and power. By creating this soft expression of the subjects it is a dynamic pushing us to new collections of ideas. There is a thought of the location becoming a debating chamber itself, of the aftermath of debate being scrutinised by us. This is part of the envelope of any art project, to transmit and alter and show a way of seeing which is the converse and opposite of normal perceptions of the same thing or realised in an alternative shocking or engaging way.
Our familiarity of the discourses is of course a point to hold and it is also capable for other universal viewpoints to arrive at much the same thought processes.

Of all art work with a narrative centred on human conflict and Guernica apart, I found the ballet ‘The Green Table’ by performed by The Bathsheva Dance Company of Israel the most powerful I have ever witnessed. As our own ‘troubles’ spiralled and became a proximity of human harm visited on many taking away lives and their future this recoiled as a parallel depiction performed as a ballet, it arrived without warning as acts of violence do. Other forms of art could provide similar responses, it so happened to commit totally to the horror of war and human disagreements being at the core.

If we go back to the original and the notion earlier, ‘this Gallery is a ‘book’ of ideas subverting the ordinary scroll of everyday blindness. Joyce’s tenth of normal eyesight comes with the baggage of having to find other ways to create.’ it presupposes a normality in that the original was designed as a dining area. Imagine what discussions might have fed those at the table. The outside is perceived as harmful while dining is a convivial and discursive learning rewarding essential social norm. While dining there is withdraw to a safe refuge to take in the harvest of all they survey.

The Green Table’ is that place of discourse and it is used not for dining but as a place to reflect and act out positions of difference and the meaning is held all are equal while a temporary lapse in normal hostilities are replaced by conversation. It seldom works as conversation is held among people as they swamp agreements or common purposes while energising other equations as a test among their piers. So the table is a mediator on levelling out. The people are of course ardently different holding outside ideas they must attend to, adhere to and visit so they are not confronted once they’ve left of change. That is also a spiral of centrifugal force. Like a satellite of thoughts much as the reverence held by the construction of Newgrange and other core layline driven spaces. These rooms are a place of discovery in the most part. They reflect on what is. They also offer food as the dining room is destroyed and in limbo while we navigate the pieces while discovering thoughts fresh and recalled.

Paucity in Religion
As the work is attempting to take on a huge subject and our lack of mediation among nations it races toward the singularity of existence seen focused on individual choices and from the sign of the baby holding a flag on entering the world it is apparent this is individuality with context. The onrush of societal norms are that contagion it is difficult to remove ideas away from.

Predicated by the notions and practices instilled since birth it is rare that independent thought perseveres without some identity context. None more so than religion. I can see the argument and that is a toxic word in some places is that our times have always been trapped by war and conflict with Northern Ireland a place known primarily through its troubles near past. So I have found the following story from a pioneer going to another place, taking with them no doubt their own societal convictions, some puritanical and conflicted with the freedoms of others, to be very tangible.

The aspect of faith or belief, in which peace is a foundation sought through religious positions is brought through in the context of the USA sate of Montana a narrative which is brought by necessity into the thinking of a pioneer. I have not seen a clearer statement on the examination of religion as seen through the individual and their own choices and the fundamental need to be observant of their own actions and place it in context of a worlds mission. Progress through peace. The exhibition alarms us and covers this – Religion – Passage – without having the place to display it.

wall fresco

James Fergus – Montana
“I said religion often had something to do with the fate of nations… the Christian religion brought about a long period of ignorance still known to us as the dark ages, during which thought was curbed, common education banished, and conscience given over to a rude, vulgar and ignoranat priesthood.

"And whatever good Christianity may have done since, much of the degeneracy of mankind during this period must be laid at its door... Christianity alone was left to darken and degrade the masses of Europe with only an occasional flash of independent thought, until the 14th century when we gradually see the flicking lights of a coming dawn. Gallieo, Bacon, Luther.

James Fergus as many pioneers sought a new dawn to live a life somewhere identity was not fixed but hindsight brought those words spoken above. In a nation never conscious of the Indian belonging to their lands and the desolation of a form of life caused by the migration into their lands it became, evokes another false dawn.

Another analogy I find in the film The Ghost Story by David Lowry which in this context unravels life backwards in a place revealing a past and positioning a future.

….walks over to to one of the pressure treated beams that line the road. She sits down.

This essay has taken many turns and has remained unpublished for a few months as the nature of the exhibition takes on more relevance and meaning. Now published 01 06 2020 I have settled on a degree of understanding and interpretation and as this world shows there is every truth in the individual having their own view in this compellingly complex world.

To finish I have noticed another reality. The Wuhan ‘origin’ of Coronavirus 19 was from dead bats. Bats it is pointed out in another book ‘Quarantine’ by John Grace, hang from caves upside down and their ‘eyes’ having limited vision in the conventional ‘sense’ are fixed as they hang on the ground, not the heavens above. The Bible uses the ‘quarantine’ of forty days in the desert to get across the story of ‘human examination’ where prayer expresses inner most thoughts. The daylight fasting contrasts with the bat and it’s lack of sight, no need for daylight and living a life in darkness without a canopy of exterior wonder as colour, our use of vision, gives us so much apparent contrasts that ultimately are illusions.

The Farthest : A Film Review

The Farthest

The Farthest – Worlds away
How do you tell a complex story?  This film achieves it by following the most precious measure of all. Time. They do it chronologically.  From the launch within two weeks of each other in August 1977 to today forty years of knowledge has been accumulated giving us insights and tools needed to survive.  In providing an extraordinary and educational insight to the Voyager Missions, the Irish Writer, Director, Emer Reynolds propels the viewer through an array of adventures in space, planet to planet. It is the story of Voyager 1 which set off second to Voyager 2 and soon went by its slower less functional twin, into our Solar system, setting a course for the Planets in a mission, confined in planning, to visit with no stopover, Jupiter, Saturn but by the technical and intellectual thrust of the missions authors and controllers, succeeded in going on further with some deft reprogramming to Uranus and onward to the 4th gas planet Neptune.  Voyager 1 apparently is 12 billion miles away currently though you would need to check with NASA to be accurate.

Flight

Each journey on flight was a discovery beyond the NASA teams wildest expectations.  Even now in this film the achievement is under appreciated.  The team participants – descriptions, titles of their respective roles are displayed, are telling the story in screened interviews, talking heads with brains planet size, while often emoting humuorously with visually amazement of what in meant and now means. Eyes are popping in aghast of some telling a story.

On “The Farthest” Emer Reynolds explains: “We wanted to speak to a general audience, not just super science geeks like myself.”   It is enhanced by his structure, honed while writing it and the steady intuitive grace of Kate McCullough’s excellent cinematography.   As you might imagine the photography at cinema screen 4K interpolated, from 2K is stacked full of outstanding display of the NASA images. We see a computer – like Excel infant – table frequently and it looks  like a child’s bookmark.  The layout is 1. A box with a picture in it. Top tag header is VG1 and across Saturn or whichever it relates to. Beside that image 2. are two small boxes one on top of the other giving a ‘wav’ – radio wavelength file – of the incoming signals which are transported to the first box as images. This is rudimentary but this is what we or the boffins/brains in Building 102 gets back from that distant small object which punches out extrodinary visions which are packed full of information it will take years to analyse wth much future help expected via. AI.

The Golden Record

Look and Learn

The last photographic signals we know that will come from Voyager are back here on earth. The vessel carries on with radio signals returning information of it going ever more distant at a speed of 10 miles per second through interstellar space. Going Farthest.  The science is laid out here in a layman terms but you require and are pulled into it by the – if you had been paying attention to the story so far – the what happens next fix.  Jeopardy exists everywhere.  In the beginning was a Government, in the beginning there was a budget. Then they had to recruit the best minds to build it from its concept, inception, a vessel with three enormous arms that would unfold once through the Asteroid belt, like a lotus flower exploring the sky and seeking its life from beneath in the mineral mix of its own body and payload – the Human representing the nutrients – to the light it engages with as energy for the Sun our own life source.

The vessel is like a brain and inside it is what is called the Golden Record. This gets a lot of airtime and coverage mainly due to the fact journalists and non-geeks love to know how Johnny Be Good will be accepted and appreciated in the far of extra-terrestrial zone Voyager ventures into.  It is literally a half speed long playing record with boxed alongside a stylus and IKEA kit diagram of operating instructions without words.   In order that we keep with the complexity, as the film continues, short paragraphs appear and extend, dissolve as something needs clarified in the written word. The big picture paragraphs the author has highlighted above the spoken word. When the unexplained happens language requires stillness and read. There are no excuses or reasons why this film cannot fill the void of knowledge of non-geeks as those who have been ask to put their own words to their part of it advance thoughts which have been gathere, been dissected, altered and polished in their heads for forty odd years.  It is full of stimulating beautiful phraseology and delivered with enormous gravitas while being so matter of fact about it which it clearly emphatically is.

I interrupt this message

To any alien species Voyager could seem like, it is just a container of entrails, maybe of a body the vessel itself might seem only the outer form of an inner wonder.   It is animal like though one scientist will not allow himself to anthropomorphise the Voyagers 1 and 2.   Maybe the ‘encountered’ will have destroyed Voyager 1 as it is taken to be itself alien.  Then in its coat tails along comes another. Voyager 2 which ‘they/it’ we haven’t been introduced properly, might be less antagonistic to Craft 2 and take it for what it is – a vessel of minerals constructed and assembled of the earths finest skills, put together back in 1977 symbolic of our progress since inhabiting the earth.   The Golden Record is an ambiguous pictorial and written record. Not available through Amazon or other outlets.  It is unlikely it contains war or weaponry photos though one photograph is of a human stalking an animal with a spear.   No images of the Gamehunter slaying a tiger or Elephant form the back of a Land Rover Discovery or other SUV on their holidays.  Only one quote will go down here in this review – and only part – ‘if they even have heads!’ which obviously is regarding the unknown destiny.

The Golden Record is our message apparently of our place in the universe diagrammatically configured with the known universe laid out in a linear diagram.

It is this composition of Earths minerals and knowledge which will travel beyond our time and earths time into the interstellar universe of possibilities.  As the naysayers preceding Galileo/Copernicus’s theories may have had it, requiring modification of the Bible. (Galileo Galilei) 1564–1642, the Italian physicist only partially solved the solar systems behaviours. Voyager on the other hand could come to  the crunch as it hits a wall of termination and its progress it halted with the unknown on the other side multiples of billions, trillions, in a world away outside our Solar system.  Quantum physics tells us Neutrons pass through us and the globe is transmutable while the electron exchanges we only glimpse, possess us in our temporality.  They engage and construct us and we are each separate assemblies of their manifestations.

Much is given over in the film to the reasoning and compilation of this and many conjectures, as it is the missions task to learn and then inform of our limited time as a planet. 5 million years left!

Big energy

Voyagers power is tiny in comparison to the surrounding atmospheres.  The reach of its plutonium powered lights are on a trajectory taking it further than the 2 billion miles, 3 billion at Neptune, it has put between us and its current location. Outer outer space is where it has gone. That is known as the interstellar cosmos. As Galileo once redefined our vision, so this tiny Voyager full of the modern technology available in April 1977, is on a mysterious journey.  It is the mysterious traveller those wonderkids of the seventies thought would provide new possibilities they Part imagined and described as of the infinite kind. The achievement went to the boundaries of their dreams and beyond their expectations of its capacity to enlighten.  Light is emitted from the battery but the darkness it enters is dense and un-encountered and it no longer is live.
Part of the understanding developed with Big Bang theory is that everything has Big energy (dark matter) passing through it.  Neutrons bouncing through us and everything else. The darkness of space is an energy unknown but ultimately our survival is reliant – other than the human self-destruct button of climate and a habitable world being activated – appears as a possibility of being in reach of accessing its mystery.

Voyager is this composition of Earths minerals and knowledge which will travel beyond our time and earths time into the universe of possibilities.  All 735kg approx of it.

Its progress if not halted with the unknown on the other side multiples of billions, trillions, of a world away outside our universe it could inform again.  The intuition of it recalibratingbis already charted.  For humans to conceptualists the earth there has been scientists such as the late, unique and contributing scientist, Carl Sagan.   His son is a frequent visitor and contributor to the story telling.  His contexturalisation of what we see is the most convincing made and does not tolerate high blown speculation.

img_3308
Something’s are beyond us

The scientists insist frequently that the Voyagers will be the only record of us beyond our extinction.  They have set up an experiment to find out the composition of the nearest gas planets and then find themselves looking at the bigger philosophical questions to fill the outskirts of their mind.  The talk of sling shots, meaning mathematical continuance of the voyage, was decided upon by careful planning.  Each trajectory is explained in detail with never imaged results we can access through this film.  Yet it is on to the next discovery.  Each scientist explains and though the press conferences at each ‘staging’ post for public consumption is populated it seems, by mainly if not exclusively, men whereas the imbalance is treated by Emer Reynolds in the inclusion of very well informed women whose life work this also is.  Imagining Science is an institute contributing and currently relaying information openly about the mission and while the journey goes on the small in the big gets smaller as more miles are travelled.

There is a juncture when the Voyager team all turn to the Challenger Mission. On January 28, 1986 the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after take-off and killed seven astronauts.  It was the 25th shuttle launch since NASA started service in 1981. For the first time a teacher was a member of the crew. Christa McAuliffe had won a contest against thousands of other teachers. When they speak of it and Voyager is without that human element, the scientist loose their capacity for coherent language, one for example who can’t think straight, said of TV coverage, ‘replaying the event over and over again repeatedly.’
The Voyager mission was constructed by Caltech Engineering and Applied Science Department of Aerospace (GALCIT) with the context of origami a filed attribute. Based in Pasadena California – where two weeks ago the indomitable and beautiful human in her 84th year, Julie Newar attended her Catcon 2017 ahead of her birthday – as sublime as ever. She never made it as an image onto the spacecraft so remains hidden. That is the history post Homers Odyssey of time travel with a return in mind of a feline leveller of our naivety played for laughs and adventure escapism. After lift off and landing on the moon another generation of escape was projected onto screens but none so realistic or measured as what this film documentary delivers, even if it is only on the flat fourth wall.

Time flies

This object, as google will tell you, is The Voyager spacecraft weight, including hydrazine, at launch was 815 kg or about 1797 pounds. It was almost the weight and size of a sub-compact car. The current approximate weight of Voyager 1 is 733 kg and Voyager 2 is 735 kg. This was launched with the computer power of a car key fob and before the internet on which you can see the stars projected to your LED lit screen form NASAs data.

On the Golden Record their is one side of music.   A collection made within six weeks of launch comprises recordings from such diverse places as Zaire, India, Mexico, China, Japan, and an Indian raga from native America one of many. On the space shuttle set up using decommissioned ballistic missiles, the film shows the words United States of America as a tiered advert for earth consumption. After the asteroid belt this is thankfully gone.  Maybe a small Stars and Stripes lurks on the body of the craft. A message might have come back – What does United mean? – otherwise.

Voyager has a brain and is minded to correct anomalies. When perplexed at its own behaviors it goes back to the manual, the data programmed within it which has failsafes and parameters and extraneous what devices built in. It is more reliable than our own manual the Bible and contains only logical prognosis. Metaphor is out. By doing a reset it has survived numerous times. When launched it literally had birth pains as it – didn’t enter the world but entered space. If you imagine sitting on the outside of Voyager what you would se would be changing infinitely. If you looked then at what you were sitting on as a reference point it would be the familiar and static. The spacecraft itself and its unavoidable familiarity. Space cannot be weighed and densities are gravitational forces we cannot see or gauge in space yet Voyager is clean and clear of collision simply because of the unlikelihood of it ever colliding with any ‘thing’. What is realisable is that in, as one scientist puts it the chances of a collision are fifty years of a billion years, the chance of collision amounts to just that. Latin speaks otherwise. Tempus Edac Rerum – Time devours all things.

Planets discovery

The revelations from incoming data has put into visual context and most ‘gratifyingly’ reaffirms that all our known minerals exist in space. What is also very apparent is that they obey in kind, gravitational forces. In two for example : The Great Red Spot is a persistent zone of high pressure, producing an anticyclonic storm on the planet Jupiter, 22° south of the equator. It has been continuously observed for 187 years, since 1830. Also it conforms to a circular gravitas as an amorphous cloud of greater density as does the other clear example, making it no coincidence, the Great White Spot, also known as Great White Oval, on Saturn, named by analogy to Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, are periodic storms that are large enough to be visible by telescope from Earth by their characteristic white appearance. The spots can be several thousands of kilometers wide.
The Cassini orbiter was able to track the 2010-2011 instance of the storm, also known as the Northern Electrostatic Disturbance because of an increase in radio and plasma interference, or the Great Springtime Storm. What is read into that is our connectivity and when Carl Sagan asked as Voyager 1 was about to go beyond – to + 0.00.00 our time, and penetrate the globule which surrounds us and every gas planet a request to turn the camera around and position the spacecraft in a location to look back at the entire distance of its journey. When it was initially rejected by the Jet Propulsion Agency for one, he went as far as he could to achieve that and did. What is shown is extremely and of the most significant image probably ever taken. A selfie of ourselves as a planet n space. Then it left the globe of atmosphere the our universe exists in and continued as a straight line not like a mouse, (very short sighted, see Nature.com Through the eyes of a mouse) Voyager goes blind into space without hugging the skirting around the big room, it carries on with faith in the humanity that propelled it in a straight unfettered and unending line. When it reaches a border and is asked Where do you think your going? it will have some time working out how to to reply.

Conclusion ####4

Space is spectacular and it is Voyager 1- 2 that conveys new discoveries of that wonder, all from the vessels trailing through space at 10 miles per second.  Seeing this enormous subject in a Cinema adds a vital level of understanding.  Even then the images are only shorthand for reality.  Only around 735 kg, these craft are continuing now, on their own, with 2 trailing way behind. As there is no clue so far, movie discusses, we don’t know if we are ‘alone’ in the universe and if anything exists in a time experience – back to that great utterance – ‘even if they have heads’ in the pathway of it on a fantastic journey which is described beautifully with an easy to follow chronological narrative.  It is told by the people who put the mission together and those who maintain contact and analysis of it speaking back to us.   I described how the data arrives, the grid ‘Excel’ like boxes and the narrative it tells is from simple zeros and ones interpreted by spectroscopes and out come images in astounding detail of the composition of the Gas planets it has encountered.  The majesty of a human constructed instrument, which if alien life encountered seems now more like a foreign object – an animal with eyes, the cameras tilting 26 and 200mm lenses on their arm, the plutonium charger which is the heartbeat and energy source and the strange antenna which talks back to the folk at home.

It is a spectacularly effective insight to our world and Solar system.

The film is relaying – ‘special effects’ get a credit – projections of space travel but the vast majority of the film involves telling the story through contemporaneous images of the assembly, launch, public updates and the teams descriptions of what it all means at least potentially.   The special effects utilised – it is so smooth an edit – are where I think the fly by digitally generated flights, which come in over the top of the frame and sail sublimely into an ocean of stars with the Voyager seen clearly with its unmoving unshifting composite self , travelling as that mysterious traveller obedient to its final instruction in finding, orbiting, the planets, instructed from within, then setting a new course to another, to the point where it goes beyond the globe protection of the planet Neptune.  That point is where all presence of it diminishes.  It is there now in another vast space journeying in a straight line for possibly (in terms of) billions of years.   The other factor informing theory is the formation of this expanding universe.  The talk of black holes at the formation of ‘multi-verse’ cosmos has an ‘event horizon’ commonly interpreted – at the boundary around a black hole on and within which no matter or radiation can escape.  Where the beginning and end is is unknown and even the question of them being the same point is what the film explores as a philosophical aspect of these discoveries.  For thousands of years the conjectures have been gathered by Astrologers informing our lives.  I have put a footnote which I hope expresses a nod to the ancient mariners of the Stars who stimulated all these participates interest in their own valued exploration.

Our knowledge is being acquired at a very fast rate. One hundred years of information and discovery in the 20th century is equivalent to the acquisition of the same quantity/qualities ty of discoveries made in as little as 12 years or even less. That is to say what was learnt in 100 years is now learnt in a tenth of that period and that is also being compressed.  The time it takes to discover things is itself reaching an apogee where we will be funtioning through reasoning taught via. artificial intelligence.

The next world altering discovery is very close.

The film has a dedication in the closing titles to Rhea Strong Fanning.

Astrology

Mankind has come a long way. For more than two thousand years the sky has been laid out in a Planisphere of the heavens. The Planets names themselves speak to us in those radiant perpetual homilies stimulating inspiration beyond us. The sky is in mankinds eye a cast of astrological myths laid out in constellations. I have extracted (from The Witness of the Stars E.W.Bullinger) the interpretation given in the astrologers from Albumazer, Ulugh Beigh whose Arab astronomy laid out the principality taken on by Greek astronomers and more modern sciences.

The Sign Leo. (The Lion) note. The Lion is a maternal animal.  Messiahs consummated triumph.

Here we come to the end of the circle. We began with Virgo,(1) and we end with Leo. Belfast one who has followed our interpretation can doubt that we have here the solving of the Riddle of the Sphinx. For its Head is Virgo and its Tail is Leo!
In Leo we reach the end of the revelation as inspired in the word of God; and it is the end as written in Hea the heavens.

Bailly (Astronomy) says, “The Zodiac must have first divided when the Sun at the first Summer solstice was in the first (degree) Virgo, where the woman mans head joins the Lions tail”.

(1) Virgo. The Sign Virgo. (Coma as it is also called – is referred to in some texts as the coming of Jesus under the Star of Bethlehem.)  The Promised Seed of the the woman.

Here is the commencement of all prophecy in Gen. iii 15, spoken to the serpent :-” I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed : it shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise His heel”” …….. it lies at the root of all the ancient traditions and mythologies, which are simply the perversion of corruption of primitive truth. Virgo is represented as a woman with a branch in her right hand , and some ears of corn in her left hand. Thus giving a two fold testimony of the Coming One.

Everyone has a piece of the Stars and are in their own constellation.

So it’s apparent the Stars as first seen and interpreted were based on quasi religious affiliation. With superstitious though nevertheless philosophically imaginative and therefore believable to the ‘faithful’ followers of Astronomy the guides are still with us as is the mystery.

Science : Watch this Space

Hunger Games

Wolves?

Game changer

Readers of a certain age might remember a computer game called ‘Lunar Lander’, where you had to use your keyboard to manoeuvre a spaceship onto a planet’s surface without destroying it. Not easy.

Well, Elon Musk – boss of SpaceX – managed it in real life this week. The company launched a rocket into space, dropped off a few satellites, and then made a smooth landing back on earth. Obviously it’s not the first time a space vehicle has made it back to earth, but as the Wall Street Journal put it, “the gentle landing… marked the first time any large rocket has managed a controlled recovery after delivering a payload into orbit.”

It might sound geeky, but in the long run, reusable rockets would be “a game changer for the space industry”. They’ll make the whole business cheaper and in turn, render “space accessible to an array of companies and researchers that currently can’t afford to get into orbit.”

MoneyWeek have written up on this this month and will continue on the topic next year.

Let there be no Star Wars!

In the equation are new space stations most probably and therefore a whole galactical space where ‘things’ can be manufactured off and out in a neutral atmosphere.  What kind of industries and cities can they be?

Science : Quantum Universe and Entanglement

 Our Material Universe

The Scientist has been writing again giving their insight to the material universe. My name for it as the step outside material involves time and non material things we know little of.

Here’s the Scientists latest post.

Can the idea of quantum entanglement explain the world or replace the metaphysics?

This peculiar phenomenon causes two or more particles to share a common feature which cannot be described individually. One requirement in quantum mechanics is that the described object/particles are be able to exists in two states simultaneously. This means if we have two objects pointing upwards and downwards at a same time, a measurement that determines the state of the object will project it to one of the two possibilities at random. Now if there is a pair of these and entangled, a measurement on one object determines the potential rest of second object independent of how far they are from each other.

It’s not wrong to say that there’s a quantum world, it’s the whole world including ourselves.

World of this kind goes back to Aristotle, where there is a polarity of an individual things, which characterised by intrinsic properties of each.

End of the day the nature can only be explained as whole through us and through every pieces in us.

(This I understand to be the passage of neutrinos and our composition through and in it.)
New Quantum Theory Could Explain the Flow of Time is a wired.com essay which brings together many aspects.

Such as :

Not to mention a bit of philosophy.

According to the scientists, our ability to remember the past but not the future, another historically confounding manifestation of time’s arrow, can also be understood as a buildup of correlations between interacting particles. When you read a message on a piece of paper, your brain becomes correlated with it through the photons that reach your eyes. Only from that moment on will you be capable of remembering what the message says. As Lloyd put it: “The present can be defined by the process of becoming correlated with our surroundings.”

The backdrop for the steady growth of entanglement throughout the universe is, of course, time itself. The physicists stress that despite great advances in understanding how changes in time occur, they have made no progress in uncovering the nature of time itself or why it seems different (both perceptually and in the equations of quantum mechanics) than the three dimensions of space. Popescu calls this “one of the greatest unknowns in physics.”

More

“We can discuss the fact that an hour ago, our brains were in a state that was correlated with fewer things,” he said. “But our perception that time is flowing — that is a different matter altogether. Most probably, we will need a further revolution in physics that will tell us about that.” of space. Popescu calls this “one of the greatest unknowns in physics.”

News has reached me of the source of the alpha beta particle names.

Research and Discoveries

In 1895, as the first research student at the University of Cambridge’s Cavendish Laboratory in London, Rutherford identified a simpler and more commercially viable means of detecting radio waves than had been previously established by German physicist Heinrich Hertz.

Also while at Cavendish Laboratory, Rutherford was invited by Professor J.J. Thomson to collaborate on a study of X-rays. German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen had discovered X-rays just months before Rutherford arrived at Cavendish, and X-rays were a hot topic among research scientists. Together, Rutherford and Thomson studied the effects of X-rays on the conductivity of gases, resulting in a paper about dividing atoms and molecules into ions. While Thomson went on to examine what would later be called an electron, Rutherford took a closer look at ion-producing radiations.

Focusing on uranium, Rutherford discovered that placing it near foil resulted in one type of radiation being easily soaked up or blocked, while a different type had no trouble penetrating the same foil. He labeled the two radiation types “alpha” and “beta.” As it turns out, the alpha particle was identical to the nucleus of a helium atom. The beta particle was, in fact, the same as an electron or positron.

Christian values

image
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
For many this Christmas will bring agonies of choices to be made for their partners, children, friends and relatives as they struggle to survive.
While many come off the streets and into shops filled with stock to buy and spend vast amounts almost wantonly in order to meet a perception of need and express through it love and with it kindness, generosity, those unable to do the same are imprisoned in a societal profligacy and recklessness abandon of Christian values.
Inequality
The poverty is written large and is clear yet the suffering is often borne silently and insensible words and motions are insufficient when the very things cherished, being those closest are themselves awakening to the inequality they are surrounded by.
image
Christianity at work
SVP Strategies are effective and personal.
Improving the experience of being helped by the SVP
Here is an extract of what happens from their own account.
Improving the experience of being helped by the SVP
While the majority of research participants had a positive experience of being assisted by the SVP, some had negative experiences. A lack of information about what to expect during a visit; the stigma associated with receiving assistance; and frequent questioning about the household circumstances were less positive aspects of being helped by SVP.
The home visitation experience could be improved if SVP ensures that:
• More Conferences begin to use the SVP Client Case Management System to record information about the households they are assisting. This system can then be checked prior to a visit being carried out, and can be updated following a visit, ensuring that members have easy access to the most up to date information about the household circumstances
• Members communicate clearly with the household about what takes place during a visit; how the household is assessed; and what kind of help may be available
• Members bear in mind that help is often sought as a last resort, when
a situation may be at crisis point and that most people are very reluctant to ask for help and may be embarrassed or upset at having reached the point of contacting SVP
• Members ask directly if the household needs help with specific things, such as food, school costs, costs of childcare or children’s sports or activities and so on, as many of those who participated in the research found it difficult
to ask for the specific things that they needed
• The high levels of loneliness and isolation experienced by many of the research participants and the importance of the visit and chat with SVP members in alleviating some of this loneliness are borne in mind
• Members recognise the stresses and adversities being experienced in households
• One parent families are aware of and supported to access supports and services in their locality which may be of benefit to them
• The parents being visited can have treats for themselves from time to time. A trip to the hairdresser, a sports event or even just the opportunity to go out for a coffee and have some time to themselves can make a difference
.
Foreboding
Across continents Christmas comes with war and lack of food or shelter. Many nations are so destabilised by governance death and infanticide are unbearably prevalent and never ending. These people are the real poor and some come out of poverty with such resolve and confidence it is seen to be a place where reparations can be made.
Unnatural survival
Our nation and circumstances are nevertheless rejectable because worse exists elsewhere but a reminder of certain values becoming universal and instruments of God and free will. No deflection or erosion of the inner self can be done by poverty alone but it brings down its nature to bear on mankind of all races.
Pandemic
Within the cities are addicts with drug problems and the fallout of remorseless greed and avarice of the era where cocaine reached and reaches places where it was consumed with plentiful abandon and when risk of drugs was greater than rewards of business where it was an easy addiction to acquire.

These are a few of the icebreaker care paths you should take and make sure someone knows what level of despair you may have reached.
Hard times
Now the hard addictions are being faced as Heroin and other highs have entangled lives across the island with its massive impact of health problems accompanying the overdoses and general dependency effects materialising once a needle is injected.
Modern society has opened up new consumptions and addictions which are symptoms of the core infliction of absence of faith and belief in the self or of any external guidance.
Choices
Whenever anyone finds themselves over this Christmas in such a lonely place and driven to behave recklessly towards addictions of one sort or another they should seek help and in themselves call upon their faith in themselves which they once will have known and take in the thought of God being beside them in whatever shape or form they have known and need now in the dark times.
image
Beside you
God is beside each and everyone of us and this message is needed by all which is why it is so important a ritual and tradition. It highlights not only the need for others, the essential human values we desire and need but it points out starkly that some people need our help and it may be ourselves asking for that.

Mental Health Care
Another source of help with regard to depression and general mental health and well being would be the charity Niamh (Northern Ireland Association for Mental Health)
I didn’t know this but they have across Northern Ireland a whole number of local centres which deal with things from Homelessness to post natal depression and have a wide range of care experience.
image
This just a snapshot of the Beacon website and as you can see the spread of work is extensive.
Another one of those charities needing support and whose work fills the holes which is the responsibility of central government to shoulder.
Sense
The realisation of others strengths and weaknesses is there to be seen and though there is a complete theatre of distraction and devices making the messages unclear and uncertain the underlying tradition and specific retention of good over evil is nonetheless present.
Industrial Walls
Within the walls of every country it has the same effect. Deprivation and inequality of life. From households which the following survey accounts in figures for a rich nation, there are other figures for resources held by companies and corporations which outstrip the financial worth of some countries. They are not profiting mankind but hoarding the means to alleviate all poverty and redress the imbalances for a future which requires rapid change.
Emphatic
This is recent statistical information deciphered by the Equality Trust, Director Duncan Exley.
from the ONS annual report on British Household wealth
Office of National Statistics.
The richest 10% of households are worth just under £5 trillion – 45% of the total – and have seen their wealth increase by a fifth between the 2010-12 and 2012-14, when the latest survey was conducted.

Their combined fortune is 875 times more than the poorest 10% of households who have less than half of 1% overall. I will put that again – the 10% poorest have less than 1/2 % of overall wealth.

It means the average household in this bottom 10% is worth £12,600. That compares to £225,100 across all households, rising to more than £1 million in the top 10% and nearly £2.9 million for the richest of all.

Property and pensions account for the bulk of what people are worth, around three – quarters of average household’s wealth. But, said the ONS, that wealth is heavily concentrated in the South East of England and London in particular.
Wanton
On a sideline note – Wang Jianlin, a Chinese citizen whose wealth is east-imated, sorry estimated at more than £20 billion, has bought a house in Kensington Palace Gardens for £80 million. It’s not in the finest of condition or to his palatial taste and he has not moved in as it will have millions more spent renovating it and making sure it’s nine bathrooms, grand entertaining rooms, indoor swimming pool are fit to inhabit.

In Britain his business concerns include Dorset based, Sunseeker Yachts.

Morality is not our prisoner.
Gods retribution is akin to a forgiveness and Yeats saw this if I use a phrase of his obliquely – ‘the best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity‘ beir bua. Or that being applied is actually in reference to division. To Theology retribution is held the meaning – the distribution of rewards and punishments in a future life, is thereafter.

In religious terms it is left to God and the word is – quite literally – apocatastasis.
The meaning of which is – the state of being restored or reestablished; restitution.
the doctrine that Satan and all sinners will ultimately be restored to God.

Also, apokatastasis.

The ‘being left to’ is a philosophy of human life being unable to answer for others but to do their utmost to forgive which can be done I suppose through education and awareness for the sinner
Within and without oneself.
image
It references also into Universalism.
Preparing for our future
Into a more rational God.
More than is combative. Reaching toward is less so. Holding out hope is what faith is and portends awareness not certainty.
Prayerfulness
Our love commences with love and remembrance of Christ his son as we take that into our own giving and seeking of love. That we remember the love first given by God.
Prayer is a return to God in the person you are, knowing it is through Him the word.

In the Hymn Just as I am by Charlotte Elliott who wrote it having told a Minister she was not worthy of becoming a Christian was told that she should come as you are.
That is wisdom through simplicity and is the first thing to place you faith in.
The understanding of God.
Is the simplest and most powerful thing.

Just as I am without one plea. by Charlotte Elliott

Just as I am without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidd’st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Just as I am, tho’ tossed about,
With many a conflict, many a doubt
Fighting within, and fears without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind,
sight, riches, healing of the mind
Yes, all I need, in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Just as I am Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve,
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God I come, I come!

Just as I am Thy love unknown,
Hath broken every barrier down,
Now to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

The Wealth
Deep and Crispin Odey
When a billionaire hedge fund manager of £9 billion worth of assets says ..”God got it right,” a certain uncertainty creeps in.
Where on earth is that coming from?
Apart from the newspaper report (sometime ago – earlier this year) which spurs this response I follow the apparent logic to obtain its relevance.
Is it from a position of revaluation?
It is coming from the Leviticus story of (our soon to depart fellow worshiper whose sermon today covers the same thing – the jubilee,
In whom we are indebted for her glorious friendship and fellowship – it will last forever) the fifty years of human misanthropic, well not quite, eremitic, well not so singular, misguided, well getting there, use of others and earths resources to accumulate and hoard, all things for and to have a year of renouncing all debt and indebtedness.

Jubilee
Time does not stand still. Crispin Odey, the billionaire hedge fund manager still hoards but finds hoarding a bit troublesome. You see his sense of jubilee is as though an appointed day shall arrive (hypothetically – there is no way for a moment it is foreseen to happen in his mind – God no.) as his mate of yore, James Goldsmith he relates foreseen the barely radical vision that lending works among peoples of the same classes. They then proceeded to hoard and lends and trade that hoard until, well it was fashionable to discuss once more jubilee.

No second coming or first coming but a return to forever. The cake was out of the pantry and the facts were on the table.
Debt amounts to £100 trillion sloshing about the world.
Do you want to write that off? Where shall we start? Do you take the current account look at it and say it can stand 2% say in the busted yoke economies? Then salvage growth by commodity price deflation? Well no because that would be as nourishing as as the output of one smelly fish farm when the thousands need real sustenance. You need a miracle worker and I can’t see one.
Do you write of 12% say? Well whose debt gets written off and who is the lender to who the debt has accrued to?

25% of the world debt is owed to China and well, they don’t do jubilee. They never did nor never will.
They are stuck though with high expectations for their lending returning new things. Well new things such as a emerging from poverty and hardship concerns seems as clear a goal as anyone ought to aspire too. However the loanees were a few cut from a certain cloth and they have capitalist aspirations akin to the hoarding general principles the mere hedger has been playing Monopoly money with for years.

Find a commodity and invest in its dependency on a market. So that would be oil then. Ŵell actually no when the stem of new technologies cannot be stopped from emerging and growing. So demand is to be from new societies randomly created out of wealth returning through lending and expansion of need? Such as China putting its return into wages topping up to create Consumerism Commensurate China. Bent at the knee for the mammon deity of Matthew and Luke next door to Leviticus.
It is about as productive as a Leviathan outlook spurning the whale as a digestion device and not an organism requiring space on the oceans trampoline of fortune. It makes a big splash.

Are you after a bigger splash. Well it seems as though people define tilt require it as the direction and Deep and Crispin Odey visionaries are all at a quandary trying to cast for one.

Digging out resources
They then wonder how the destructive industries took hold until they look at the location of those avarice goals and commodities lay.
If I recall J.Goldsmith liked his mining a lot. Well a great deal because it was a great deal. Pay people a pittance to extract their own mineral wealth and sell it back to them in mobile phones to ring others for a route out of the place. It’s kind of blew up in our faces round here. It’s enough to make you a green activist. Or go save a whale on a Greenpeace crusade. Or crusade for a jubilee.

You see the jubilee is here everyday. It has no sleep as it follows the sun and the breaking of bread continues while you sleep like the animals show the jubilee takes place with at a certain time of day the water bowl is visited. The drawn water is taken up and needs met for in turn another to replenish its form and it’s need. How it is managed is the nature of the optimal. The hard facts of the surface of the soil being the overgrazed or being the circularly treated replenished pasture. The jubilee allows for untending to take place. That is where the land recovers. It in Leviticus clearly shows the philosophy of permaculture to preside.

The Deep and Crispin Odey needs a bigger umbrella because their is going to be a bigger splash as he and his fellow hoarders the, Banks play odious, greed fashioned, inner mutuality, sick provoking capitalist foolery with the beast they are in the belly of.
You see currency is not one commodity. That being the ‘obtained’ truth they tripped upon, it instead is, one currency is axiomatic.

The jubilee is not alone an act of forgiveness, of sin, of debt or as commonly referred to in prayer. The daily prayer in which we speak of trespass says to us to put down our fears of human, animal or the unknown. The fear we receive is a metabolic explosion of the inner pact we have failing to be responded to by Gods instruction. Respect for others is to respect their difference. It is to respect their own path through life so different it may be for we do not live in the one place.

In the wake of the flood of apathy predicted as the outcome of the Paris Climate talks it is likely the investment needed to bring about real change to climate predictions is not going to happen, Big business, the source of most pollution and intransigence relating to energy usage. The hoarding of assets that could easily transform the process of climate change is frozen. The will does not exist and the tidal flow of melting ice at polar opposites will drown nations and create surges in immigration so far unimagined.
The Syrian crisis can be traced back to the climate activity destroying its agricultural dependency an causing national hardship.

I plea to the rich and the hoarders to reconcile their conscious in more than simple philanthropies but to turn around the motion of Climate change by acting with Governments for change and resource the Energy dependency on fuels which cause the damage in the industries producing the majority of theroblem.

It is a reality which cannot be dismissed and there are climate change scientists with solutions who must be supported.

Otherwise flood event after flood event and degree change will be the onset of this purge of the planters Eco system being done in this the Anthropocene age.

Its a given
To create a market place is to work for the conveyance of the things we can offer with the gift of giving which in return brings the things we have not. This world is the learning becomes the valuable shared commodity. Of cures for this and that. Of minerals capable of crafting living. Of setting quotas of expansion and retraction. Of setting balance of Law and Moral turpitude need be seen in the simple terms of do no harm. Of sharing happiness and relieving harm. Those are exemplary generalities. For once we begin to realise our creative metabolic need is satiated by this permaculture, dwelling as we do for many in fertile conditions, others clearly living with fertile lands out of reach can be met by not animal based proteins but mainly ‘The China Study’ plant based diet our bodies most accord with, is a time beginning.

The senses we have are like the black and blue seen as gold and white. It makes for realisation all is not as it is seen but is what it is.
Who asks why will receive the reply. God only knows.

The Wonder of Science : Neutrinos

image
It is a week without a film to review though I watched on a large screen the film about the Stasi ‘The lives of others’ which is not exactly fun (unlike Goodbye, Lenin) but is one very strong piece of important believable cinematic narrative.

So instead I put over a piece of science news after this intro.

The Nobel Prize for Literature, it was just announced, went to a lady – one of the few if any to receive this particular award, from Belarus where the leader this weekend achieves his mandate with a thoroughly extraordinary 95% or thereabouts vote. Her novel is a fictional/non-fictional – you decide re telling of interviews following her earlier use of the form and you can find the details by looking at the Nobel Prize website links.

Nobel Acknowledgement
CND is not Corbans New Democracy or indeed Can Nuclear Deliver but was a symptom of the Cold War standoff which concerned our lack of control over Nuclear fusion and what is now called Nuclear Proliferation.
‘Nations’ are already armed to the hilt across the planet to make meaningless any strategic inroads to depletion of stocks of nuclear functioning weaponry.

So it comes as no significant shortfall that one declaration of world wide scientific and other knowledge based and intellectual achievement comes under the temple of Nobel patronage. The Swedish scientists institution for awards was started after his death in 1896 in 1901 from largely arms derived finances and it scopes out a plateau of highest achievement in several fields as judged by peers and experts of suitable standing.

Into this piece of world demography comes this year the award in the field of Physics recognition of the discovery made in the crust of the earth – so far down as to avoid the interference of earth surface radiation or any kind of radiation that became the foundation of work leading to the breakthrough discovery of what happens to the energy emitted by the Sun as electro neutrinos as it crosses the universe to earth.

Prof. Kajita and McDonald win the Nobel prize.
The leading researchers at Japan’s super-kamiokande and Canada’s Sudbury Neutrino Observatories were studying neutrinos coming from cosmic rays and Sun for nearly two decades. These neutrinos are created from supernova explosion, from death of stars, to reactions in nuclear power plants and naturally occurring radioactive decays. (Para quotes my mystery scientist!)

All calculations previously opined 2/3 of the energy had dissipated in some way or been neutrialised on its journey but how?

It seems it on leaving the Sun or as any other expulsion like a death star there is a conversion into two other types of neutrinos.

Australians, even those Rugby playing types you see demolishing teams on the way to placing an Ovid shaped ball at the opposite end of the field or pitch known as the tryline call a Sunbeam an unused kitchen utensil left over at the end of the barbecue or what other means of food consumption they happen to be indulging in.

No the Sunbeam or Sunray to be specific is both heat and light from the Sun which is about 93,000,000 miles away. (I remember the day our science teacher at school pretended to calculate from the clinker covered hockey pitch on day the sun could be seen in our northern location, the distance with a rather large tee square he someone managed to lift out of the drawing masters class without him realising, and with a string and blackboard diagram by trigonometry ascertain its relation to us.
All we got were sore eyes looking directly at the sun for too long, sporadic incidents of headaches induced by same and nausea brought about by wearing a School tie while gawping between him and said object.

Japanese scientists have proven the hitherto theory of depletion by experiment. See the photo at the top kindly posted by my scientific advisor who again must remain nameless who brought this achievement to my and a wider audiences attention.

While he was boiling his breakfast egg, (egghead!) or demarking the line to which his skimmed milk must reach to correctly enrich for taste his simply oatalicious Museli or comparable breakfast cereal is only a guess but it is this fascinating adjunct.

In releasing potassium from our bodies as an everyday occurrence we release around 5,000 neutrinos (per second) simultaneously as our own little radiation burst. Fancy that. If we all stood together and released them simultaneously and into a reflective device goodness knows we might even put another hole in the zone layer or if a double decker bus – hopefully empty see its top deck severed at the stair poles and the rest disappearing in a Cloudburst. (A good tune you will find on spotify by the way by Niagra – or perhaps the other way round – the long version is best!) so it is another mystery as to how we are our own little nuclear fusion devices but I’m sure my specialist scientific advisor will keep me across this in due course should other insights arise. Unless of course they might lead him to his very own Nobel Prize. Not entirely unlikely.

image

For this achievement to gain some (it clearly is not short of clarity of importance) I offer something which came up on the Morning Daily Service today on R4 which in pointing out our earths crust tell tales as it were on the Dorset Jurassic coast (there are even closer examples nearby to me at Larne for instance) giving us an understanding of a time wheel if not a history of exact scientific evidence as to its formation, we were reminded of the destruction initiated in Syria of the Palmyra monuments which is also attributed by some accounts to Russian bombing. These are small indictments considering the plainly inhuman aspects of killings and wanton population depletion in places like Aleppo. People cut down like wheat in the fields.

The Wonder of Science : Fusion

New Science Energy Technology
image
I happen to know a brainy man who has posted on his Facebook page some details of a breakthrough in Fusion energy as achieved in America by some Scientists.

The Secrets out then as written up on news.sciencemmag.org as

Exclusive: Secretive fusion company claims reactor breakthrough

So questions arose and the post advisor wrote the following –

Fusion for beginners
The key to nuclear fusion and the potential of energy release is the binding energy in the nuclei and famous Einstein mass energy relation. The binding energy is what it takes to disassemble a nucleus into it components parts, I.e. Protons neutrons (please see http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/nucene/nucbin.html)

The binding energy for nuclei of lighter than Iron is much smaller compared to higher Z ones and this in fact is the difference between nuclear fusion and fission process (where atoms split like 235U in conventional fission reactors).

Therefore in fusion process for the two light atoms are fused to form a nucleus with higher binding energy thus releasing energy according to E=mc2.

There are many fusion process that can take place however the problem relies on igniting such a reaction.

The solution will be through producing a high initial kinetic energy impulse that can be used to overcome the coulomb repulsion (since two equal charges repel each other, this need to be overcome for fusion to take place) and only can be at higher temperates, done either in a controlled way with reactors or thermonuclear combustible. Now the beauty is to do it in a controlled way.

When the temperature is very high the hot ionised conducting gas has the chance to have high thermal velocity and overcome the repulsion force (there are other processes if the temperature is not right to overcome the problem such as tunnelling we will ignore those for the present.)

However at these conditions they tend to fly apart and be unstable so there should be a way to keep them together.

In fact there are two path ways to achieve fusion, Inertial Confident Fusion known as ICF (that sort of things we do in Queen’s with laser) and Magnetic Confinement Fusion known as MCF.

MCF does this at low densities and over a relatively long time whereas ICF is quite the opposite (ICF known to do more with weapon research, please see National Ignition Facility).

In MCF the plasma tends to be confined through using a magnetic field as mentioned in the article and requires to avoid touching the wall due to millions of degrees it has.
On the subject of instabilities which the lay person might raise, there are two ways it can these occur, one is through the collision process when a particle(s) move away from their trajectory and second by disturbances through perturbations i.e. change in pressure.

This can be occurred with tiny mechanical failures/changes in magnetic force surrounding the plasma leading to pressure change and in the change in actual ring formation.

Hence the nature of safe enclosure being the primary goal before it’s utilisation.

The means is forming of a stable environment for very high levels of ‘mobile’ energy.

What this company introduces is the H+11B leading to 4He, which is a dream reaction.

So there you have it.

An explanation of the processes which will potentially change our lives.

As a footnote I add another energy related subject I recently became aware of concerning salt.

Other advances touch on this as techniques from different fields of Science Around energy contribute to one another.

For example salt and sea desalination techniques are also a source of energy release and the process is now enabled at less bar – pressure – virtually nil – as to be a massive benefit where water shortages are occuring and with water access – (Water Aid are a charity dealing right now with this issue) – becoming critical as populations increase; are sometimes remote from fresh water resources for changing reasons, the techniques have dual outcomes – fresh water and energy from the salt.

Salt. An Amazing Mineral!
Find your answers their out there!

Solar Eclipse 2015 March 20

The Deadly Sun
image
For us to have sight of the sun we are first told the light from it will destroy our vision. We are in the light everyday without fear we are accustomed to protecting our eyes by using an aid such as the Ultra violet ray’s filter incorporated in glasses.

Straight away the strength of the sun and it’s association to us is present.

Sunlight emitted from the Sun takes Eight and a third minutes to reach us. The light from other planets is traveling from billions of light years before though we can look through the night sky at this ancient light.
image
The distance between the earth and sun is around 93 Million Miles.
In kilometers is 150,000 million kilometers which divided by the speed of light, 300,000 kilometers per second then the eight seconds shows the proximity of this major planet in our solar system.
Celestial once uniform
Our solar year comprises the 365 revolutions which brings around each season of our calendar.

Into this derived calendar over millennia these behaviours of the sun have been become patterns which our presence on earth has consumed and adapted to then recorded.
image
Only since the discovery of notation have we discovered how far back the recognition of the solar effect had celestial realisation, entering into how we explain to ourselves the continuation of our planets as a system both fluid and static.

The static meaning is used to highlight the times preheating us, in which the sun will have crossed the moon and the earth comes between the sun and the moon.

Numerically the latter is highly frequent whereas what we witnessed on 20 March 2015 is not only very infrequent it has a set of appearances which the Jewish faith have taken to signify the timely extrapolation of their Biblical history. The patterns are so pronounced they appear as visionary.

The occurrences of Jewish upheavals are seen in Biblical texts with Israel affected by the events known and actual have almost formed, co-inciding as a will or expectation that at times The Jewish faith believe they will be challenged and confronted with fundamental elements and outcomes as is present at the point of the celestial indicators of the eight moons.
Eight Blood Moons
This year contains eight blood moons in sequence of which the eighth is after our common week of seven duration predicates the new day of learning or reckoning.

So Exodus and various religious tracts are unfolded to bear witness on us.

But how this is known is the greatest question of all. God only knows.
image
It is not known but merely the very creation by giants of imagination, the authors of our historical revelation, recording for themselves the events of Christian thinking, told with the narrator not Jesus but Moses.
The Israelites being so outside of The Lord God, could not themselves listen directly to God but were totally reliant on the words given to Moses.
image
Jesus was on the side of God and Gods word was the word Jesus taught us.

The words of Moses deserve and are worthy of faith but are not the entirety of faith nor is the word of The Lord set to divide or set apart some from others. Jesus told us to be aware of the simple truth and reject all other things.

The Easter Time
We are coming towards a time, Easter, when we again realise the world is of our habitation not our making and until we return to God forsaking all sin of war, hurt and harm, from ignoring our love for our neighbour as given us then we are on the path away from God and the pain of the crucifixion is our eclipse.

We are not in the sight of God when we ignore the wisdom given. We are in anticipation of of the words of the Lords Prayer.

We are in the hearing of the sound of the world washing us in the water here since the world became.

image

image
Within air, the air, nitrogen, oxygen carbon monoxide and other spoiling polluting gases in which we reside silently breathing until God takes us away from this life and returns us to his.

Other Occula

We see as we have seen on the Sun the formation of Crescents. Some called Occula.

Occula
This a protrusion on the occipital bone of the skull that forms a joint with the first cervical vertebra, enabling the head to move relative to the neck.
On our nails are a crescent shape. The fingernail from under our skin revealing an inner fixed point.

The edge extends the crescent stays within us at the finger and between the head and body there is this Occula bone being a sign of the two elements most evident and whole being joined.

Across the world we explore connections with even wider universal discovery exciting and forever making us totally in search of inexplicable and forever creating insights to sit around and explain the order our planet may find itself in at this moment and the next.
